The Delhi Women’s Club was organized in September 2006 and incorporated in October of 2006. The original organizers were a handful of local women who belonged to the BPW ( the national organization of Business & Professional Women) but began to believe they could better serve the Delhi area through a local community service group. As a result of this belief they left the BPW and organized the Delhi Women’s Club, Inc. The 2006 mission of the Club reads: “The Delhi Women’s Club, Inc. will be an advocate for community activities and growth with an emphasis on promoting opportunities for women.” From 2006 through mid 2016, the Club had many fund raising events with the proceeds distributed to local organizations with an emphasis on those organizations that benefitted women in some way. Educational scholarships were also awarded to women who lived in the Delhi School District.
In 2016 the Delhi chapter of the Kiwanis proposed that the Delhi Women’s Club consider a merger. The membership of the local Kiwanis was diminishing to the degree that continuing a local chapter was not feasible. However, several of the remaining members continued to have a desire to serve the community. Our membership was also diminishing. Since our missions were very similar and we would be stronger together than separate, the Delhi Women’s Club became the Delhi Women & Men’s Club in September 2016. The mission of the “new” club was changed to: “build a better community.” The purpose of the reorganization was rewritten to say:
- To exercise, promote and protect the rights and interests of the citizens of the community of Delhi
- To stimulate an interest in the civic affairs of the community
- To provide help in the form of donations, scholarships, grants and support wherever needed.
